Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 August 2026
1. About this policy
Welcome to IndoAtlantic ("we", "our", "us"), the community business directory at indoatlantic.ca that helps people discover local businesses, services, and offers — and helps businesses reach that community.
Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to our website, business listings, dashboards, and notifications.
By using IndoAtlantic you agree to this policy. It was last updated on 5 August 2026.
2. Information you give us
When you create an account we collect your name, email address, password (stored only in encrypted form), and your phone number and country where you provide them.
If you complete your profile we may also collect your address or region, country of origin, languages, and a profile image or avatar you choose.
When you send us a contact form, report content, or ask us for details about a business, we collect your name, email address, phone number if you include it, and the message or query itself.
3. Business listing information
If you list a business with us, we collect the information needed to publish and run that listing: business name, category, description, address and location, phone number, email address, opening hours, website and social media links, map link, and the logo, banner, and gallery images you upload.
Information on a business listing is published publicly by design so customers can find and contact you. Please do not add personal details to a listing that you do not want shown publicly.
When you claim an existing listing, we use the contact details already on that listing to verify that you are authorised to manage it.
4. Content you publish
Reviews, ratings, offers, gallery images, and owner responses are public. They appear on the relevant listing, in search results, and in category pages, alongside your display name or business name.
You can edit or delete your own review at any time, and business owners can edit or remove their own offers and images. Removing content takes it off the platform, but copies may remain briefly in backups or in caches held by search engines.
5. Location information
If you allow your browser to share your location, we use it to show how far nearby businesses are from you. That calculation happens in your browser, and we do not store your precise location.
We convert business addresses into approximate map coordinates using a third-party mapping service so listings can show a map and distance. You can refuse or withdraw location permission in your browser at any time; the site continues to work without it.
6. Information collected automatically
Like most websites, we automatically collect limited technical information when you visit: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages visited, referring and exit pages, and time spent on the site.
We also record engagement events such as listing views, image and offer views, likes, shares, and subscriptions. These are aggregated into the performance metrics shown to business owners in their dashboard. Business owners see counts and trends, not the identity of individual visitors.
7. How we use your information
We use the information we hold to: connect customers with relevant businesses; create and run your account and listing; publish the reviews, offers, and images you choose to share; send notifications you have asked for; provide performance metrics to business owners; respond to enquiries and provide support; keep the platform secure and prevent fraud, spam, and abuse; improve and personalise the experience; and send you important service updates or changes to our terms.
We do not process payments and we do not collect or store any payment card information.
We do not use your personal information to make automated decisions that have a legal effect on you.
8. Notifications and emails
Account and service emails — such as confirming your email address, resetting your password, or notifying you of important changes — are part of running your account and cannot be switched off while your account is open.
Activity notifications, such as new offers from businesses you subscribe to or a reply to your review, are shown on your notifications page and may be emailed to you. You can stop these by unsubscribing from the business, adjusting your preferences, or using the unsubscribe link in the email.
9. AI-assisted features
Some business tools — image generation, SEO suggestions, and the business card designer — send the text and images you provide to our AI service provider so it can generate the requested output. That content is processed to produce your result and is not used by us to build advertising profiles.
Please do not include sensitive personal information about yourself or anyone else in an AI prompt or uploaded image, and review any AI output before you publish it.
10. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, understand how the site is used, and improve performance and security.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you do, parts of the site — including staying signed in, your dashboard, and some saved preferences — may not work properly.
11. How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
We share information in these situations: with a business when you contact it, request details, or publish a review or response on its listing; with the service providers that operate the platform on our behalf, such as hosting, database, storage, email delivery, mapping, AI, and analytics providers, who may only use it to provide their service to us; where required by law, regulation, or valid legal process; and where necessary to establish or defend our legal rights, or to protect the safety of our users.
If our business is ever reorganised, sold, or merged, information may transfer as part of that transaction under the protections of this policy.
12. Third-party links and services
Our site links to and embeds third-party services, including maps, app stores, and the websites and social media pages of listed businesses. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Please read their own privacy policies before sharing information with them.
13. How long we keep your information
We keep your account and profile information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal information, and a business account deletion also removes its listing, gallery, and offers.
Some records are kept longer where we need them for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or to meet a legal obligation. Residual copies may persist in routine backups for a limited period before being overwritten.
14. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. These include encrypted connections, access controls on our database, and row-level rules that restrict data to the account it belongs to.
No transmission or storage method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password, and contact us immediately if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
15. International transfers
We are based in Canada, but the providers that host and support the platform may store or process information in other countries. Where information is transferred outside your jurisdiction, we take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected to a standard comparable to this policy.
16. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, withdraw a consent you previously gave, object to or restrict certain uses, and receive a copy of the information you provided to us.
You can act on many of these yourself: edit your details on your profile page, edit or delete your own reviews, unsubscribe from businesses, remove listing images and offers, and delete your account from the account menu.
For anything else, email us at connect@indoatlantic.ca. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
17. Children's privacy
IndoAtlantic is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.
18. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the platform or in the law. When we do, we revise the "Last updated" date shown at the top of this page, and we will tell you about significant changes where appropriate. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
